Alderman Huntley Launches Re-Election Campaign
Press Release: Alderman Huntley Launches Re-election Campaign with Packed Event at McGarvey’s
ANNAPOLIS, MD- Annapolis Ward One Alderman Harry Huntley kicked off his campaign for a full term on the city council at McGarvey’s Oyster Bar packed with supporters, including Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth, Ward One Residents Association President Craig Harrison, local business owners, and other residents from King George Street to Spa Road.
Huntley vowed that he and his campaign would “out-hustle” any other competitors by running a race focused on delivering for the 4,906 people in Ward One, as of the most recent census–not national or state issues. In his announcement, Huntley outlined a grassroots effort that will start with the people in the room simply telling their neighbors why they support him and quickly expand to door knocking, letter writing, and house parties.
Notable attendees included:
Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth
Clerk of the Circuit Court Scott Poyer
County Councilman Pete Smith
Board of Education member Dr. Joanna Tobin
Mayor Gavin Buckley
Ward 5 Alderman Brooks Schandelmeier
Ward 7 Alderman Rob Savidge
Former Ward 5 Alderman Jared Littmann
AACDCC D30 member Dylan Behler
AACDCC D30 member Courtney Buiniskis
ADCC Ward 1 member Fish Stark
ADCC Ward 7 member Jack Turner
ADCC Ward 5 alternate Mariah Davis
Ward One Residents Association President Craig Harrison
Germantown-Homewood Community Association President Erin McCopp
Annapolis Pride Chair Joe Toolan
County Executive candidate James Kitchin
Ward 8 Alderman candidate Will Cunha
In speeches introducing and endorsing Huntley, Congresswoman Elfreth spoke about Huntley’s experience advocating for environmental policy, while Harrison stated that in his 14 years on the board of the Residents Association it has “never had a better relationship with the Ward One alderman than today.” He detailed numerous instances of Huntley rapidly and personally responding to tangible resident needs, like for pedestrian crosswalks.
As guests mingled over oysters, crab balls, and McGarvey’s “mega nachos,” they heard from Huntley about his experience and priorities: building welcoming and joyful communities, optimizing government for trust and results, and protecting Annapolis’ people, history, and environment. He discussed how his background writing legislation to make Chesapeake Bay restoration more cost-effective has enabled him to rapidly jump into the role of alderman over the past four months. His campaign message–echoing the sign in front of him–was simple: “Let’s make it happen!”
Alderman Huntley was appointed in September 2024 to replace former Ward One Alderwoman Eleanor Tierney, who retired to Massachusetts. Since that time, he has responsibly shaped the city’s budget as Chair of the Finance Committee and has worked to improve park maintenance, speed up snow removal, and limit the density of short term rentals.
Ward One residents and others can sign up for Huntley’s biweekly updates on events in downtown Annapolis and business before the council at HarryMHuntley.com.
The election is November 4, 2025, with the Democratic primary occurring on September 16, 2025. Two other candidates have announced that they intend to seek the seat.
