Ward One, Let’s Make It Happen: Congresswoman Elfreth Offers Words of Support at Harry Huntley’s Campaign Launch

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Since September, Harry Huntley has worked tirelessly for the people of Annapolis. Following the resignation of Eleanor Tierney, the Annapolis Democratic Central Committee held a vote to select a replacement alderman for Ward One of Annapolis.

Huntley heard the call, and with the support of seven of nine committee members, the young politician’s career as alderman began. Huntley…is now running for a full term in 2025, with the general election set for Nov. 4.

Huntley kicked off his campaign with a public event at McGarvey’s Saloon on Sunday, Jan. 26. The venue was packed with dozens of people, including Ward One residents, Huntley’s closest friends, and notable political figures. Various state and local politicians attended the afternoon campaign launch, including U.S. Rep. Sarah Elfreth, who spoke in support of Huntley.

In her speech, Elfreth said, “I’m so excited for my friend Harry. When I was at the State House, he was an environmental advocate. We worked together on a really important piece of legislation that we passed this last year. So I’ve seen him in his capacity to advocate for the things that he’s passionate about at the State House, and I’m really excited to now have him represent me as a downtown Ward One resident.”

Huntley’s mother, Edye Sanford, offered insight into the alderman’s early interest in politics.

[…] “he’s always been community-focused. I think Harry just wants to make things better. He’s fallen in love with Annapolis and wants things to be good here.”

During the campaign event, Huntley spoke about many of his goals, including improving local waterways, preserving the history of Annapolis, and creating a more responsive city government so that every Ward One resident feels heard.

During his speech, Huntley said, “I want to see Annapolis get even better than it currently is. I didn’t grow up here, but I got here as fast as I could.”

Huntley is only in his late 20s, but he has already built a strong following in Annapolis. As a finishing touch to his speech and a call to supporters, he said, “Ward One, let’s make it happen!”

The future of Annapolis looks bright as more young people work toward improving the historic city. Though Huntley’s political career is only just getting started, it’s clear that he cares deeply about both the residents of Annapolis and the city itself.
